Tell Me Something Tuesday: Do You Cheat and Read Ahead While Reading a Book?

TMSToption2Blue
Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly discussion post hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings where a wide range of topics from books to blogging are discussed. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.

This week's discussion question is:

Personally, I don't think I have ever done this! I absolutely hate being spoiled by a book, and that is what generally prevents me from reading ahead. Also, if I'm that desperate to know what's going to happen, then I'm generally really loving or engaged with the book and I will subconsciously try to draw the book out longer because I don't want it to end. It's a problem.

The only exception to the above is if it's a book that I really dislike or no longer want to read, but that I still want to know what's going to happen. That's when I'll allow myself to just sort of skip forward

Now, have I ever accidentally spoiled myself? Definitely. We've all had those times when it's a really intense moment and we flip the page and our eyes somehow drift right to the opposite page and somehow something is inadvertently spoiled... yeah, that's always frustrating.

So now I pose the same question to you: do you ever cheat and read ahead while reading a book? If so, why? Do you have a strict rule to never look ahead? Do you ever have exceptions? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Umm....sometimes I just ahead to see how many pages there are and accidentally read the last few paragraphs....it's a problem. And I need to stop.

    1. Oh I've definitely done that, too! I get oddly impatient when reading books sometimes and am curious to see if I'm close to the end of a chapter or the book -- even if I'm loving the book -- and then whoops, the damage has been done.

  2. I can't recall a time when I've ever jumped ahead in a book I was reading. Maybe some required reading for school that I wasn't really enjoying, but that's probably about it.

    1. Yeah, that's generally how it is for me as well. I hate knowing things ahead of time, so I do everything I can to avoid spoilers of any sort. Required reading, - depending on the book - however, can be a quite different story...

  3. Ooh, nope! I do NOT like spoilers! Although I'm the same and I have accidentally spoiled a book for myself. Breaks my heeeart. *weeps* Just recently I accidentally started an audiobook in the middle and gave myself a MASSIVE spoiler!! I'm still so annoyed!😂

    1. Oh no! I would also be so annoyed, I hate spoilers so much -- I just really love the suspense of not knowing and finding things out as they are meant to be discovered. Accidental spoiling is the worst, though. Here's to hoping you never have another audiobook accident!

  4. Nope, nope, nope! I ever, ever do this because spoilers are possibly my #1 bookish pet peeve, so I would never willingly spoil myself XD haha.

  5. Nope, Nope, Nope! Never! I cringe at the thought of skipping ahead - One of my friends does this all the time and I cant help but shudder. I wouldn't want to spoil the book for myself!
