Can't-Wait is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings that spotlights exciting upcoming releases that we can't wait to be released! This meme is based off of Jill @ Breaking the Spine's Waiting on Wednesday meme.

This week's upcoming book spotlight is:
Cold Iron by Miles Cameron
 Publication Date: October 23rd, 2018
Orbit
496 pages

From Goodreads:

"
A young mage-in-training is unwittingly pulled into a violent political upheaval, in the first book of this new epic fantasy trilogy by Miles Cameron, author of the Traitor Son Cycle.

Aranthur is a promising young mage. His talents compel him to attend University to develop his abilities further. But the world is not safe for a mage, and after a confrontation leaves him no choice but to display his skill with a blade, Aranthur is instructed to train under a renowned Master of Swords. During his intensive training he begins to question the bloody life he's chosen. And while studying under the Master, Aranthur is conscripted to the City Militia. Soon after, he finds himself thrown into the middle of a political revolt that will impact everyone he's come to know.

To protect his friends, Arnathur will be forced to decide if he can truly follow the Master of Swords into a life of violence and cold-hearted commitment to the blade."
Not only do I love a good 'mage-in-training story,' I'm also really intrigued by the other directions this story sounds like it's going to take. I'm always up for a political revolt, and I"m intrigued to see what sort of setting and style this book will have. (As I was preparing this post, a copy from Orbit showed up at my door (thanks, Orbit!), so I can't wait to dive in now!)

What do you think about this upcoming release? What are your anticipated upcoming releases?

  2. Ooh this sounds good. I like that he's not only a mage-in-training but also has to learn the sword- sounds like he'll have some tough choices to make in this story. :)
