The Friday Face-Off: Lion

Friday Face Off New
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme at Books by Proxy. Join us every Friday as we pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe. You can find a list of upcoming topics at Lynn's Books.

This week's topic is:
Lion- “Is that a lion with horns and a pitchfork?”

When I first saw this week's topic, I had no idea what I would possibly pick because the only book I could think of that had a lion on it was the The Chronicles of Naria bind-up editoin. Fortunately, another book quickly popped into my head that I knew had the perfect lion for this week--A Lion Among Men by Gregory Maguire! It's the third book in his Wicked Years series and has some great covers.

My choice(s):
A Lion Among Men (The Wicked Years, #3)
A lot of these are really fun, but I'm definitely partial to the original US cover edition. I just love the border, the circle in the middle with the title and the lion with his fantastic glasses. Total win for me. I also love the physical books because the middle circle portion is like a cut-out and I think the detail is really great.

What cover(s) do you like the most!?

  2. I think the 2008 US edition looks very classic Maguire, but I think I like the Portuguese one the best!
