Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme at Books by Proxy. Join us every Friday as we pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe. You can find a list of upcoming topics at Lynn's Books.
This week's topic is:
graphic novel cover – “Love belongs to Desire, and Desire is always cruel”
My first thought for this week was The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman because they have some pretty wild and varied covers, and I was not disappointed. It was hard to pick which one in the series to feature, but I always really loved The Kindly Ones (Vol. 9), so we're going with it!
1996 Vertigo Paperback | 1996 Vertigo Hardcover | 2014 Spanish
2019 Special Ed. Finnish | 1996 Italian | 2019 US Anniversary Edition
My choice(s):
There didn't end up being as many of these covers as I expected, but I think the ones that do exist are interesting enough to make up for that. the Spanish and Finnish ones really stand out to me the most and I really like the subtle yet complex design of them.
What cover(s) do you like the most!?

These covers are pretty crazy, I can't even really tell what I'm looking at!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that, haha. They are all so weird usually, and some of the others in the series are even weirder!
