Can't-Wait Wednesday: City of Orange by David Yoon & Elektra by Jennifer Saint

Can't-Wait is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings that spotlights exciting upcoming releases that we can't wait to be released! This meme is based off of Jill @ Breaking the Spine's Waiting on Wednesday meme.

This week's upcoming book spotlights are:
City of Orange by David Yoon
Publication: May 24th, 2022
G.P. Putnam's Sons
Hardcover. 352 pages.
Pre-order: Amazon | Bookshop.org

"A man who can not remember his own name wakes up in an apocalyptic landscape, injured and alone. He has vague memories of life before, but he can't see it clearly and can't grasp how his current situation came to be. He must learn to survive by finding sources of water and foraging for food. Then he encounters a boy--and he realizes nothing is what he thought it was, neither the past nor the present.

City of Orange is a novel that is both harrowing and heartfelt, charged with a speculative energy but grounded in intimate character study. It is a novel about coming to grips with the worst that has befallen us and finding our way home again.

This imaginative and affecting new novel is beloved, bestselling, and award-winning author David Yoon at his finest: thought-provoking and heart-piercing, by turns funny and challenging, and at all times deeply human."
I have absolutely no idea what to expect from this book, but I'm really intrigued by this premise. It sounds like it leans on the speculative side for sure, but this sounds like a bit of a departure from Yoon's other books. Really looking forward to checking this one out!

and...

Elektra by Jennifer Saint
Publication: May 3rd, 2022
Flatiron Books
Hardcover. 320 pages.
Pre-order: Amazon | Bookshop.org

"The House of Atreus is cursed. A bloodline tainted by a generational cycle of violence and vengeance. This is the story of three women, their fates inextricably tied to this curse, and the fickle nature of men and gods.

Clytemnestra
The sister of Helen, wife of Agamemnon - her hopes of averting the curse are dashed when her sister is taken to Troy by the feckless Paris. Her husband raises a great army against them, and determines to win, whatever the cost.

Cassandra
Princess of Troy, and cursed by Apollo to see the future but never to be believed when she speaks of it. She is powerless in her knowledge that the city will fall.

Elektra
The youngest daughter of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon, Elektra is horrified by the bloodletting of her kin. But, can she escape the curse, or is her own destiny also bound by violence?"
I'm actually going to be part of the blog tour for Elektra's release next week, but I still wanted to feature this book because it's one of May's releases that I've been really excited for. I really appreciated and enjoyed Saint's Ariadne last year and think she does a great job of crafting these inspired stories.

What do you think about these upcoming releases? What are your anticipated upcoming releases?
