The Friday Face-Off: Under the Sea

     Friday Face Off New

Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme at Books by Proxy. Join us every Friday as we pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe.  You can find a list of upcoming topics at Lynn's Books.

This week's topic is:
Under the Sea

The first book that came to mind when I heard this week's topic was Deeplight by Frances Hardinge! This book was so imaginative and perfectly captured Hardinge's writing style. It doesn't take place entirely underwater, but things beneath the sea are extremely important to the entire plot and world of the story. There are only three covers for this one, but I think they're really creative and fun, so let's have a look at them!

Deeplight Deeplight Deeplight
2019 UK Hardcover | 2020 US Hardcover | 2020 UK Paperback

My choice(s):
I'm honestly torn between the two UK editions! I love the original UK cover that I own because it's so beautiful and full of details. The paperback is also really captivating to me as well and I really like how much the title stands out, though I probably like the hardcover slightly more. The US cover kinda bothers me for some reason–something about that illustration that just looks odd. Maybe it's just me!

What cover(s) do you like the most?

  1. I think I like the UK paperback better, the font is much more interesting than the hardcover. But really, all of these are nice!
