From Goodreads:
"A tense, gripping novel about a mother whose child begins to change in ways she can’t explain, from the national bestselling author of The Place Where They Buried Your Heart.
Nora Pacetti is a new stay-at-home mother—she’s tired but coping while caring for her happy, healthy baby, Olivia. But then one morning, something that looks like a feather starts growing out of Olivia’s arm. Or at least, that’s what Nora’s mother, Giulia, thinks. Nora thinks her mother has probably spent too much time watching conspiracy videos on YouTube.
Nora’s husband thinks Olivia needs tests, specialists, hospitals. But Nora senses that whatever is happening to her daughter needs to be concealed—and a mother’s intuition is never wrong. Soon sinister people begin asking questions about Olivia, and Nora starts to wonder if there really is something wrong with her baby. But she’s determined to discover the truth about her daughter . . . no matter the cost."
I'm always read for some new horror from Christina Henry!
Milkteeth by Caitlin Starling
Publication: November 10th, 2026
St. Martin's Press
Hardcover. 304 pages.
Pre-order: Bookshop.org | Amazon
From Goodreads:
"The only thing more terrifying than a brood's hunger . . . is its mother's.
Beatrice is a broodmother: a vampire responsible for nursing newly made fledglings through the first years of their unlife. She nests in an abandoned, isolated warren of office space beneath her patron's skyscraper, where she raises her fledglings―two difficult, hungry children of the night.
But when she takes on a third, the balance ruptures. Her hunger swells beyond control. Her body alters, betraying its purpose, transforming her into something even more monstrous.
Desperate to master herself once more, Beatrice courts a mortal OBGYN who might be able to unravel the secrets of her unnatural anatomy. But soon their connection threatens the secrecy of her vampiric coven as well as the safety and development of her dependent nurslings… and in a world governed by secrecy, even the smallest revelation could prove fatal.”
I'm not really a big vampire fan, and I'm honestly not sure how much this synopsis really appeals to me haha, but I'm always curious to check out Caitlin Starling's work so I will certainly be keeping my eye out for this one!
The Horse and I by Genki Kawamura, trans. Chikako Kobayashi
Publication: November 17th, 2026
Flatiron Books
Hardcover. 176 pages.
Pre-order: Bookshop.org | Amazon
From Goodreads:
"From the award-winning film director and New York Times bestselling author of If Cats Disappeared from the World, a dark, introspective novel about a woman and a horse.
A horse stood on the highway.
Yuko Setoguchi, a lonely clerk at a shipyard whose life has passed her by, is making her regular commute when she has a fateful encounter with a former racehorse, Strada, who seems to have escaped from his trailer just to cross her path. Yuko feels strangely compelled by Strada, following him to the outskirts of town, riding him at the struggling Mugikura Riding Club, and forging an instant and special connection. In a world overflowing with words, Yuko feels a love that is more powerful in its silence.
But in order to be with Strada, she will need more than just love; she needs money, too. And she knows just where to find it.
With dreams of restoring the horse to his former glory, Yuko turns to the shipyard union's coffers, falsifying the books and embezzling what she considers a temporary loan, but which rapidly exceeds a hundred million yen. And when a coworker discovers her secret, the pressure is on for Yuko to make a decision: turn herself in, or commit to making Strada a champion, regardless of the cost.”
I love the concept of this one and am really curious to see the author tackles it.
