The Friday Face-Off: Blurred

Friday Face Off New
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme at Books by Proxy. Join us every Friday as we pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe. You can find a list of upcoming topics at Lynn's Books.

This week's topic is:
'out of focus' – double vision or all a blur

This ended up being more challenging than I expected! Since it was hard to find just one cover with a lot of different ones, I decided to sort of make this week a miscellany of different ideas.

The first ones I'm starting with are a variety of Haruki Murakami books! So, there are a lot of different covers out there for Murakami books. I started collecting the 1997-era Vintage Books cover designs, but then in 2015 Vintage Books unleashed some new ones that have now made up more than half of my collection since, well, it's harder to find the old ones (but I'm still looking--if you didn't know, Murakami is one of my favorite authors!). When I saw this topic, however, I immediately thought of these covers because they are all pretty abstract and more than a few have a sort of out of focus/blurred feel to them.

A Wild Sheep Chase (The Rat, #3)After the QuakeSputnik Sweetheart
Dance Dance Dance (The Rat, #4)The Elephant VanishesAfter Dark
(the right one isn't a 2015-style edition, but it still fits here!)

Then, I just had to include The God Game and two English translations of books from Marina & Sergey Dyachenko since they also fit this topic really well!

My choice(s):
I can't possibly pick a favorite this week, though if I had to choose I might say After the Quake and Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki are the prettiest Murakami ones, and I can't get enough of the cover for Vita Nostra!

What cover(s) do you like the most!?
