Can't-Wait Wednesday: The King of Crows by Libba Bray & The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

Can't-Wait is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings that spotlights exciting upcoming releases that we can't wait to be released! This meme is based off of Jill @ Breaking the Spine's Waiting on Wednesday meme.

This week's upcoming book spotlights are:

The King of Crows (The Diviners, #4)
The King of Crows (The Diviners #4) by Libba Bray
Publication: February 4th, 2020
Little, Brown
Hardcover. 560 pages.

"After the horrifying explosion that claimed one of their own, the Diviners find themselves wanted by the US government, and on the brink of war with the King of Crows.

While Memphis and Isaiah run for their lives from the mysterious Shadow Men, Isaiah receives a startling vision of a girl, Sarah Beth Olson, who could shift the balance in their struggle for peace. Sarah Beth says she knows how to stop the King of Crows-but, she will need the Diviners' help to do it.

Elsewhere, Jericho has returned after his escape from Jake Marlowe's estate, where he has learned the shocking truth behind the King of Crow's plans. Now, the Diviners must travel to Bountiful, Nebraska, in hopes of joining forces with Sarah Beth and to stop the King of Crows and his army of the dead forever.

But as rumors of towns becoming ghost towns and the dead developing unprecedented powers begin to surface, all hope seems to be lost. In this sweeping finale, The Diviners will be forced to confront their greatest fears and learn to rely on one another if they hope to save the nation, and world from catastrophe."
I absolutely adore this series and I have to say that I'm pretty sad it's ending. Nonetheless, I'm beyond excited to read this and I feel like I've been waiting for it for ages--though I'd gladly keep waiting because I just love this series so much! I've been slowly working on a re-read of The Diviners, though I've only gotten through the first one so far, so let's hope I can pick it up. Can't wait for this release!

The Mercies
The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
Publication: February 11th, 2020
Little, Brown
Hardcover. 336 pages.

"Finnmark, Norway, 1617. Twenty-year-old Maren Bergensdatter stands on the craggy coast, watching the sea break into a sudden and reckless storm. Forty fishermen, including her brother and father, are drowned and left broken on the rocks below. With the menfolk wiped out, the women of the tiny Northern town of Vardø must fend for themselves.

Three years later, a sinister figure arrives. Absalom Cornet comes from Scotland, where he burned witches in the northern isles. He brings with him his young Norwegian wife, Ursa, who is both heady with her husband's authority and terrified by it. In Vardø, and in Maren, Ursa sees something she has never seen before: independent women. But Absalom sees only a place untouched by God and flooded with a mighty evil.

As Maren and Ursa are pushed together and are drawn to one another in ways that surprise them both, the island begins to close in on them with Absalom's iron rule threatening Vardø's very existence.

Inspired by the real events of the Vardø storm and the 1620 witch trials, THE MERCIES is a feminist story of love, evil, and obsession, set at the edge of civilization."
Okay, this sounds amazing. I am so drawn to this setting, premise, and basically everything about it. Also, both covers for this book are stunning! (I'll post the US one below--I'm slightly more in love with the UK one, so I've made that the main cover for this post.)
