The Friday Face-Off: Brown Covers

Friday Face Off New
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme at Books by Proxy. Join us every Friday as we pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe. You can find a list of upcoming topics at Lynn's Books.

This week's topic is:
Brown Covers.

I thought this week would be a bit more fun to just feature a variety of different brown-ish covers, rather than just comparing a few (okay, and because a lot of these only had one or two other covers to compare), so here we are! There was a quite a bit more variety than I anticipated, which is always fun.

The Looking Glass WarsThe Witch's KindTrickster's Choice (Daughter of the Lioness, #1)
2007 US Paperback | 2019 US Hardcover | 2004 US Hardcover

The Queen of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #1)The Unlikely Escape of Uriah HeepThe Angel's Game (El cementerio de los libros olvidados #2)

LIFEL1K3 (Lifelike, #1)The Manhunters: The Complete TrilogyThe Hunger
2018 US Hardcover | 2018 US Kindle Edition | 2018 US Hardcover

My choice(s):
The Queen of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #1)The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep
I really love both of these! The Queen of the Tearling is such a gorgeous design and always stands out to me. I didn't love the book, but I continue to hold onto my copy because I just think it's so beautiful and I have hopes to give it another shot one day. The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep is also such a fun cover to me and I love all the different typefaces and image of the character sort of leaving the book. It's so whimsical, but also still has a nice air of mystery (it's also an incredible book, go read it!).

What cover(s) do you like the most!?

  1. I also did this, with multiple covers, and oddly enough, we don't have any overlap!

    1. That's so funny that we don't have overlap! (And I didn't even realize that my blog posted a mid-draft edition of this post--I've fixed it, but for that confusion and lack of editing, haha!)

    1. Isn't it so great!? (Also, sorry for the weird version of this post that you also probably saw--looks like Blogger didn't save my completed draft, whoops!)

  3. I wouldn't think brown would be a common color for book covers, but you've found some great ones!
