Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme at Books by Proxy. Join us every Friday as we pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe. You can find a list of upcoming topics at Lynn's Books.
This week's topic is:
Holding An Object
There are so many options for this week because so many people love holding things on book covers! The easiest one for this would be about 80% of fantasy books because so many characters are depicted swords or some sort of weapon. Because there is such a wide variety, I just decided to share a bunch of different books featuring people holding things, though I tried to exclude any weapons because that just felt too abundant, haha!

My choice(s):
Frankly, I love most of these covers! I do particularly enjoy the gorgeous Mexican Gothic cover and the cover for Speak Easy! For some reason the former just always stands out to me, I think because of the colors and the fact that it doesn't really remind me overmuch of other covers; there's just something unique. And for the latter, I really love the way you just get a little peak through a keyhold at all this activity going on on the other side...

These are all great, but I'd have to go with Mexican Gothic - there's just something about that cover!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I bought that edition of Speakeasy, and it's easily one of my favorite covers 😁
