The Friday Face-Off: Summer Read

Friday Face Off New
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme at Books by Proxy. Join us every Friday as we pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe.  You can find a list of upcoming topics at Lynn's Books.

This week's topic is:
A favourite holiday read

This was a tricky one because I don't really have any specific holiday reads I tend to have as go-tos, but I ended up picking a series that I remember reading over the summer as a kid–Pendragon by D.J. MacHale! I never knew too many other people that read this series, but I loved it. It's a great portal fantasy series and I would love to finish the series one day, but there's another part of me that wants to just keep it alive in my memories, haha. For this topic, I'm going to share the first book in the series, The Merchant of Death

The Merchant of Death (Pendragon, #1)The Merchant of Death (Pendragon, #1)De wereldreiziger (Pendragon, #1)
2002 US Paperback | US Ebook | 2006 Dutch

Der Händler des Todes (Pendragon #1)Бобби Пендрагон. Связной между мирами. Торговец смертью (Pendragon, #1)The Merchant of Death (Pendragon, #1)
2004 German | 2006 Russian | 2008 US Paperback

My choice(s):
Der Händler des Todes (Pendragon #1)
From a purely aesthetic perspective, I really like this German edition! But at the end of the day, I'm also rather fond of the original 2002 US paperback edition because it's the edition I first read and therefore has a few more memories attached to it.

What cover(s) do you like the most?

  2. The Dutch edition is jumping out at me, although it could be because of the fluorescent green😁
