Top Ten Tuesday: Side Characters I'd Read As Main Characters

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book blog meme now hosted by Jana over at The Artsy Reader Girl!

This week's topic is: Side Characters I'd Read as Main Characters

For this week's topic, I decided to pick out some non-main protagonists that I really like and/or find myself curious to know more about. These are characters that I'd be happy to read some sort of novella or POV from to maybe learn more about their background or just here about some of their own experiences. Since there are so many secondary characters I love, it was hard to choose just ten, but I did my best to just randomly pick a few, so let's check them out!

Master Assassins (The Fire Sacraments, #1)

Uncle Chindilan from The Fire Sacraments series by Robert V.S. Redick (Master Assassins, Sidewinders)
I have been enamored with Chindilan ever since his introduction in Master Assassins, and I would be more than happy to read anything from POV, whether it's a short story, novella, full novel, backstory, anything. He seems a fascinating guy!

Mother Pig (Houndstooth, #2)

Jatiri from Mother Pig by Travis M. Riddle
Jatiri is such a thoughtful and and wonderful character and I would really love to read any part of this series from her POV. I'd also be interested in simply reading more about her background in her own sort of story. Frankly, I'd love to read more about any of the characters in the Houndstooth trilogy.

The Light of the Midnight Stars

The parents from The Light of the Midnight Stars by Rena Rossner
I feel like there are a lot of stories where I'd love to hear more from the parents (such as The Bear and the Nightingale as well!), or maybe about the parents before they had their children, and The Light of the Midnight Stars is no exception. I'd really love to read about some backstory for the parents.

A Cavern of Black Ice (Sword of Shadows, #1)

Addie Gunn & Traggis Mole from the Sword and Shadows series by J.V. Jones (A Cavern of Black Ice, etc.)
There are a lot of really interesting characters in this series so I had a lot to choose from. I decided that Addie Gunn and Traggis Mole are two characters that I always find myself most excited to read scenes with, so I'd love to have them feature a bit more in the books and/or in their own sort of story.

The Marrow Thieves

Rose from The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline
Rose is a beautiful, brilliant young woman who has undergone some real tragedies in this book. I would be more than happy to read this book from Rose's POV or even a new story or something from her. I think she would be really thoughtful and have some new insight.

Senlin Ascends (The Books of Babel, #1)
Byron from The Books of Babel by Josiah Bancroft (Senlin Ascends, etc.)
So we do get quite a bit of Byron in the recent books, but he's such an intriguing character and one that I love so much that I'd love to read even more of Byron in any form!

Peter Pan
Smee from Peter Pan
We have endless retellings about Peter, Captain Hook, Wendy, and even Tiger Lily–but what about Smee? How did Smee come to be Hook's right hand man? Why is he so seemingly adorable, and why does Hook trust him so much? I think a lot of fun could be had with more stories about Smee.

The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1)
Merry and Pippin from the Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
Look, I love all the characters in the Lord of the Rings series, but I will always have a soft spot for my favorites ("favorites," she says, knowing she has many favorites) Merry and Pippin! I'd love to read about some of their own adventures either before or after the events of the series, or even the series from their perspective.

The Tethered Mage (Swords and Fire, #1)
La Contessa (Amalia Cornaro's mother) from the Swords and Fire series by Melissa Caruso (The Tethered Mage, etc.)
Amalia's mother may not be the most welcoming person, but she certainly seems like a complex and intelligent person. I'd love to read a short novel or something about her upbringing and life before Amalia really begins to take over and have more responsibility.

Fire from Heaven (Alexander the Great, #1)
Hephaestion from* Fire From Heaven by Mary Renault
*I mean, he's not from this book since he's just from straight history, but I really just want a story that makes Hephaestion the protagonist or has some POV content from him. The reason I chose Fire from Heaven is because I think Mary Renault would do a particularly beautiful job of executing this idea.

Have you read any of these books? Are there any side characters that you'd love to get more content about?
