Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme at Books by Proxy. Join us every Friday as we pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe. You can find a list of upcoming topics at Lynn's Books.
This week's topic is:
“One could mention many lovable traits in Smee. For instance, after killing, it was his spectacles he wiped instead of his weapon.” -- Glasses or spectacles
This week was an easy topic to look for, but surprisingly few of my books I looked through actually had glasses on the cover! I chose to feature a few covers of Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami and Stoner by John Williams since the selection was so limited.
Kafka on the Shore
2006 US Vintage Paperback | 2009 Turkish | 2003 Chinese
2020 Polish | 2009 Italian | 2005 Norwegian
Stoner
2006 US Paperback | 2015 Arabic | 2012 Italian
My choice(s):
I love this set of US Vintage editions of Kafka on the Shore because I think they have a great style and they fit the general oddness of Murakami's books. I also really love this edition of Stoner; it's very classic and I think just captures the sort of general emotion of the protagonist at various points in the book.
What cover(s) do you like the most!?

Ooh, this was a hard one! I think I like the US vintage one, too.
ReplyDeleteOoh these are great. I love your choice of Kafka, and my favorite Stoner cover is the Arabic😁
