The Friday Face-Off: Lake

Friday Face Off New
Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme at Books by Proxy. Join us every Friday as we pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe. You can find a list of upcoming topics at Lynn's Books.

This week's topic is:
The mysterious lake – Lake

This week's topic made me immediately think of Carol Goodman The Lake of Dead Languages since it has a lake on the cover and in its title! The Lake of Dead Languages is a great example of a story of mystery situation occurring at a girls' boarding school. I was surprised by how many different editions exist for this book!

The Lake of Dead LanguagesThe Lake of Dead LanguagesHet meer van de meisjes
2005 US Paperback |  2003 Paperback | 2002 Dutch Edition

Il lago delle lingue morte
2002 Paperback |  2003 Swedish | 2002 Italian

2005 French | 2003 Paperback (Arrow Publishing)

My choice(s):
The Lake of Dead LanguagesThe Lake of Dead Languages
This was a tough one because, for once, none of these covers really stood out to me.
I think I have to stick with the 2005 paperback edition that I read, but I also really love how mysterious the 2003 paperback edition is.

What cover(s) do you like the most!?

  2. I haven't read this, so I don't know which cover fits best, but I also love the 2003 paperback cover. Its very unsettling...

  3. I didn't realize there were other editions either. I had the 2005 edition though it was a hardcover and nostalgia is probably why I love that one most though the 2003 one fits the mood of the story well. I'm actually partial to the 2002 paperback as it fits with the references to classic and Latin studies in the books.
